I've been having a huuuge HP renaissance lately. I am still working my way through all three million words of Saving Connor, but I have found time in the meanwhile to reread a buttload of ancient Harry/Draco masterpieces like Irresistible Poison and How Harry Potter Got His Groove Back and Seamus is Seamus and You are Yourself and oh my god I don't even know what else. That fic where Draco's Patronus is Harry and there's a spider tattoo! That fic where they take a class in sex magic! I HAVE BEEN ALL UP IN FICTIONALLEY, IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO SAY.

And there's new stuff! People apparently kept writing after I left the fandom??? This and this and this!

I was thinking about it, and you know, everything I continue to love and miss about HP fandom is exemplified by the Saga of the Canon of Blaise Zabini. Ludicrous amounts of fanon! Hilarious entitled wank! Massive projecting on the parts of the authors! The perils of an open canon! Wars being waged over single words in the text that no one outside of fandom came close to noticing! A beautiful girl! No, a suave Italian guy! No, a sexy black dude! ♥♥♥♥♥ There never was a fandom quite like it before or since, you know? Ohhh, HP.

Anyway, I am seeing HBP with [info]thehoyden on Sunday. IT IS SAFE TO SAY I AM EXCITED.

The problem with me having an HP renaissance is that I totally wanked to Snarry back in the day. Although I am fond of the way HP fandom posts its epics in one large chunk on websites instead of in 16 parts on lj. Not that I needed any more epic fics open in tabs in my life right now.

Oh man, [info]bookshop has a HUGE H/D Party Post going right now and it's pretty amazing. There are so many fics people are talking about that I'd forgotten even existed.

Gendernonspecific!Blaise! Oh those days were my favorite. Were you on FA when those giant Blaise ship wars were going on? (Okay, giant for the number of Blaise fans there were anyway!) I was a total fence sitter because I liked it all. :D

I don't think there will ever be anything like HP fandom. It was epic. <3333

That post is making me so happy. Oh, the nostalgia!

I totally wasn't, because I was a massive lurker back in my HP days. Also I was like fifteen. But I still love each and every incarnation of fanon Blaise to this day. :D

It's hard to imagine it coming again, isn't it? It would have to be something that pulled in teenies like HP did, but was less objectively crap than Twilight.

Me too! I've been stalking it since she posted!

The only place I was ever 'active' in HP (for lack of a better word) was the FA forums. Mostly I lurked and geeked out to my RL friends. I was pretty young too, like 13 or 14 when I started out in HP fandom? Crazy times. I do too, there's nothing like not knowing the gender or, well, anything really about one of the only Slytherin year mates of Harry's mentioned in the book. Fandom got so creative with it!

It's really hard to imagine. You're right, Twilight will never match up because it doesn't have the world building that HP did. I think that is the thing that made so many people get into the fandom - the sheer scope of the world. You could be in HP and never even mention Harry Potter and there aren't a lot of fandoms like that!

hp fandom will never be old, it's like that one movie that you watch every once in a while and you remember how much you love it! and then you put it back on the shelf for like two years. but whatever
