I know a lot of people were horrified at the oblivious teenies in the ICH comments, but man, OF COURSE there were going to be oblivious teenies. For all that the ICH commenting population has changed over the past couple years, that is still a community full of teenage girls, and no one can deny the existence of misogyny like teenage girls can deny the existence of misogyny. I can't even blame them that much. The more you can convince yourself that men don't hate women, the less horrible you'll have to feel about it.

The truth is, I'm just thrilled by how seriously smacked down they were. I love the ICH mods like nothing in this world, and I love everyone who commented in that post, and I ADORE every teenie who commented to be like "um jsyk gaskarth you should probably kill yourself~". HEARTS HEARTS HEARTS. There aren't that many places on the internet that aren't explicitly marked as feminist that would still have a conversation like that.

(Context is for people who don't stalk the shit out of Pete Wentz)

anyway, ATL are still assholes who make bad music.

Those teenies were my favourite thing about the post. They managed to show their dislike for the video in a short, hilarious sentence. Plus, they give me hope that not every teenage girl has been conditioned to hate their vagina.

WHY DID I GO BACK TO THAT POST? WHY?

Fucking "it's funny cuz its true" bullshit makes me want to light people on fire. I'm going to have to go back and reread the earlier threads where the smackdowns got laid hard

okay, page 5 was better than the end of page 4.

It cracks me up that Ils and I made LITERALLY THE SAME COMMENT about flames on the side of our faces.

Yeah it was ... kinda insane. I'm sure much of my rage was fueled by Panic Breaking My Heart Day but still... I just was incredulous. INCREDULOUS!

HEY WANT TO KNOW SOMETHING AWESOME? From No God But God:

The fact is that for fourteen centuries, the science of Quranic commentary has been the exclusive domain of Muslim men. And because each one of these exegetes inevitably brings to the Quran his own ideology and his own preconceived notions, it should not be surprising to learn that certain verses have most often been read in their most misogynist interpretation.

...

The so-called Muslim women's movement is predicated on the idea that Muslim men, not Islam, have been responsible for the suppression of women's rights. For this reason, Muslim feminists throughout the world are advocating a return to the society Muhammad originally envisioned for his followers. Despite differences in culture, nationalities, and beliefs, these women believe that the lesson to be learned from Muhammad in Medina is that Islam is above all an egalitarian religion. Their Medina is a society in which Muhammad designated women like Umm Waraqa as spiritual guides for the Ummah; in which the Prophet himself was sometimes publicly rebuked by his wives; in which women prayed and fought alongside the men; in which women like Aisha and Umm Salamah acted not only as religious but also as political - and on at least one occasion military - leaders; and in which the call to gather for prayer, bellowed from the rooftop of Muhammad's house, brought men and women together to kneel side by side and be blessed by a single undivided community.

So I read the subject line and was wondering why you hated Atlanta so much.

And then recalled that it did, in fact, once die in a fire.

And then I read the rest of the post.

Wow. The more time goes by, the more I appreciate Gerard Way telling us to punch band boys like this in the face. I would totes do that if I met ATL, on behalf of myself and everyone I know.

That said, the smackdowns were hilarious. :)
