what I've been up to, since it's obviously not lj-ing
We've been watching Freaks and Geeks in this household, lately. Before that, Ils and I watched the first two seasons of Slings and Arrows. We all sit around in the living room and I knit and we watch TV. I probably say this embarrassingly often, but I really love my living situation. I don't just mean I love my roommates, although I do; plenty of living situations with awesome people turn out terribly, for various reasons, and I am so glad that mine involves not only cool ladies but cool ladies who mesh well as housemates. YAY.
I've also been exploring the exciting world of cooking! Here's something I made last week:

(recipe)
I actually cooked this all Wednesday night and then refrigerated the separate parts, so all I had to do Thursday was combine and serve. Not pictured: the steamed fresh broccoli and asparagus I had later as a snack. Oh my god so fucking delicious.
And I cooked for an audience for the first time Sunday night, namely my roommates and one associated boy:

(recipe)
This was pretty good, but it needed to be reduced more, especially in the vodka stage. I knew it was not reduced enough the whole time I was cooking it and serving it and eating it and it was deeply frustrating. Aaargh. We ate it with a salad.
Between the cooking and the knitting (one sweater and one lace stole, both in progress), I'm going to make one lucky man or woman very happy someday, don't you think? *practices floor-waxing*
To end on a fannish note, I get really butthurt every time someone tells me they don't ship Kirk/Spock in the new movie, which, for the record, I HAVEN'T SEEN. Oh, self. But come on, have you no respect for your foremothers?! They walked uphill both ways in the snow to write intensely florid pornography about green peens! >:(
I brought up Number One in class today in a discussion of feminism, as well as the Bechdel Test, and my professor basically said the point was trivial. SIR, I SUBMIT THAT IT IS, IN FACT, YOUR FACE WHICH IS TRIVIAL. MAJEL BARRETT > YOU.
(I also brought up some of
go_gentle's awesome thoughts about the hard sciences and masculinity, ftr, and he thought they were very insightful. I should show him how to write her name on your knuckles.)
P.S. Every time I try to upload pictures to scrapbook, LJ logs me out. Is this just me?
